Musical Theatre tells a story through more than one discipline. It blends music, theatre and movement. Our classes involve dancing to a musical theatre song and incorporate acting and singing with an emphasis on exploration and creativity. Musical Theatre genre students are often referred to as “triple threats”.
Our HSC Tuition private lessons are a helpful pathway to those Year 11 and 12 students undertaking the NSW Board of Studies Dance Course. Whether their major is core performance or core composition it allows them to work on their dance technique within the context of the study, fine tuning their sequences with strength, flexibility, endurance and co-ordination.
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including Modern, Jazz and Ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements. This style also focuses on floor work and stresses versatility and improvisation.
Tap dancing is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. Tap dancers stay light on their feet and tend to dance to the melodies of the music. We teach the Les Griffiths Tap Dancing Academy (LGTDA) syllabus, a Newcastle based training program.
Modern dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings. It was created with an emphasis on creativity in choreography and performance. Modern dancers use their body weight to enhance movement with another characteristic being the deliberate use of gravity.
Character dance is a specific subdivision of classical dance. It is the stylised representation of a traditional folk or national dance, mostly from European countries, and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theatre and dance. It is still widely taught in Australia and is incorporated into the RAD ballet syllabus.
Ballet serves as the backbone for many other styles of dance. Ballet is based on techniques that have been developed over centuries. We train with the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus (RAD) which offers an internationally recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities.
Jazz is a fun dance style that relies heavily on originality and improvisation. It often uses bold dramatic body movements, including body isolations and contractions. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years due to its popularity in movies and music videos.
Our Twinkle Toes classes were created for 2-3 year olds. They are designed for little dancers and provide an opportunity for creativity, co-ordination and fun. Through movement, dance and mime, students learn to express themselves while being taught the graceful art of ballet. We also have Little Ballerina classes designed for 4 year olds.
